Whether it was the Galaxy Tab 10.1, or the Galaxy S 2 announcements for US availability, Samsung has canceled the New York event on May 24th for reasons unknown. While the date has yet to be rescheduled, the event will likely get a new date from Sammy soon. Or so we hope.
We’re already expecting the Galaxy S 2 to land in the states sometime in the near future, as a new accessory practically confirming the devices for three of the four major carriers, Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T. T-Mobile is notably missing, and this could be a result of the AT&T acquisition, or Magenta will be receiving a modified, “pro” version of the device, like the Sprint. With the success of the original Galaxy S, it would be wise of Samsung to get its much beefier successor to market as soon as possible. Then again, there may good reason for the delay, whatever it may be.
Google gave out Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab 10.1 at its I/O conference last week, and we are very impressed with the super thin, Honeycomb tablet. What’s likely the best Android tablet to date, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is blazing fast with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, and bests the iPad 2 in terms of thinness and weight, which is rather impressive. Android 3.0 still has some kinks to be works out, but the 3.1 update should address a handful.
Even with the great strides handset-makers have been to accomplish with Android, Samsung was first to bring a decent Android tablet and handset family to market, and it’s apparent that the manufacturer has learned from its mistakes by looking at its latest generation of devices.
With great products coming down the pipe from LG, HTC, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola, it’ll be interesting to see the Android landscape in just a few short months from now. Will Samsung’s products be able to retain their allure once the Android competition catches up? We’re not sure, but we can’t wait to find out.
Whatever caused the delay for the event next week, hopefully Samsung will soon announce the next date soon. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear more from Sammy.
