Successor of Thunderbolt announced by intel

Thunderbolt, the latest interface has barely set a mark in the mark and Intel is already making plans to replace it. Likes of Intel have to think ahead and they have once again exhibited this trait by working for a technology which is planned to be launched around four years down the line. Intel have prototypes and have set a foot on the metal to take it up though they don’t have a codename.

Silicon Photonics (Not Quantum Photonics) are used in the new technology, and will take the data transfer to a new milestone of 50Gbps surpassing Thunderbolt’s already awesome 10Gbps. Intel is just flaunting off more than they used to though they had developed a prototype last year. And now with a 2015 release, the future seems to be much clearer than no date at all. Intel’s Jeff Domain also suggested that the new interface might even be compatible to Thunderbolt in some cases which are definitely great news for Thunderbolt fans.

Hoping to hear from Intel in another 6-7 months. Till then, just sitting tight looking forward to thunderbolt ports in every portable device and maybe even optical cables.
