In the last few months we have seen some mid ranged Smartphones arriving in the market. We saw some Android ICS devices coming into the market from the brands like Sony, HTC, LG and a couple of newcomers like Huawei. We grabbed a couple of devices from the market. The two devices which landed in our hands for a compare test are HTC One V and LG Optimus L7. Both the devices were pretty good and gave tough fight to each other in all the sections. Here’s a detailed compare test of HTC One V and LG Optimus L7.
Build and Looks
The look of HTC One V is pretty good. The shell of the phone is mainly made up of aluminum and it has got plastic finish. One V has got the glossy touch which gives it a premium look. On the front there are 3 touch sensitive buttons just below the screen. The phone sits on to the hand very nicely. The bottom of the phone is curved towards the front which makes it easier to hold as well as it adds up to the unique design of the phone.
On the other hand, LG Optimus L7 is much bigger than HTC One V. The shell of the phone is made up of plastic. Yet, the Optimus L7 looks very classy. The ports and the dedicated keys are placed well. We loved the design of the phone. Pointed edges on the top but gets curved while getting down to the bottom. There’s a physical button just below the screen centered by two touch sensitive buttons. Another thing which makes it good looking under the eyes is the slim form factor of the phone. It’s just 8.7 mm thick.
It will be very difficult to choose one on the basis of design. We preferred Optimus L7 ahead of One V for its big size and slim form factor.
Features and Performance
HTC One V is powered by a single core processor of 1 GHz which sits on the Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset whereas Optimus L7 has got the processor with the same clock speed which sits on Qualcomm MSM7227A chipset. We ran AnTuTu (the benchmark software) on both the phones. We didn’t install any additional apps in the phone though we didn’t remove the pre-installed apps also. The results were in the favor of HTC One V. One V scored 2566 whereas Optimus L7 was falling behind at 2309.
Multitasking on HTC One V wasn’t a painful task up to a certain level. While browsing around the phone was pretty good. The combination of Android 4.0 and HTC Sense UI 4.0 was really good to have. On the other hand the 1 GHz processor of Optimus L7 proved to be on the lower side for Android 4.0 and Optimus UI 3.0 combo. We faced some lags while browsing around the phone. As the number of background applications increased, it affected the performance of the phone straight away.
Blessed with Adreno 205 Graphics HTC One V will allow you to play HD videos and some HD games too. Whereas the Optimus L7’s Adreno 200 graphics will allow you to watch HD videos but you won’t be able to play much of the popular titles. Though, this much is enough for playing Angry Birds (all versions so far).
The 3.7 inch capacitive display of HTC One V is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The Optimus L7 is bigger in terms of display. It has got an IPS LCD of 4.3 inches. Resolution of display of both the devices is 480x800. With such a big screen size, a qHD display was expected in Optimus L7.
The color temperature and brightness of One V’s display was much better than our expectation. We were able to spot the objects while browsing the web under the sunlight. The IPS display of Optimus L7 was expected to give some good output and it rose up to the expectations. The contrast level of the display was on the lower side but the color balance was good. The display of LG Optimus L7 was more responsive than that of HTC One V.
Coming towards the camera, there’s no match between HTC One V and LG Optimus L7. HTC One V is way ahead in this. Though the specs sheet of the phones look alike but the quality of the images clicked using the camera of One V was far better than that off Optimus L7. During the daylight Optimus L7 gave some good images but under the dark conditions the images were out of the temper. The color temperature of the images clicked using L7’s camera wasn’t so good either.
The HTC One V camera allows you to record HD videos whereas Optimus L7 will allow you to record VGA videos only. The quality of the videos recorded using One V’s camera was pretty good. There was a slight reduction in the color temperature, though it was fair enough.
LG Optimus L7 comes along with a secondary camera. This makes the phone 3G friendly. You won’t be able to spot any secondary camera on HTC One V.
Call clarity is exceptional on both the phones. Music playback was much better in HTC One V. The sound of Optimus L7 started to tear up as we increased the volume to 100%. The same itchiness was also noticed in HTC One V but it was better than its rival.
Verdict and Price
It’s still difficult to choose one out of these tow devices. On one hand HTC One V offers better performance and good experience with the camera whereas on the other hand LG Optimus L7 is loaded with a screen of 4.3” inches and it has got a sleek design. Not to forget, LG Optimus L7 is a NFC enabled device whereas One V lacks of NFC capabilities. It depends upon you, if camera is your priority then go for One V if not then Optimus L7 is must. There’s not much difference in the price tag of both the devices. In India and US you will have to a few bucks more for One V (price in the table). But the scenes are different in UK. HTC One V has got the price tag of £224.22 whereas for LG Optimus L7 you will have to pay £244.78.
