Acer has showed off its latest Android tablet, Iconia tab A500. This seems like a new step from Acer and a fine. The specs of this tablet are indicating that it can be an iPad killer. The 10.1 inch tablet comes with Android 3.0 Honeycomb and is powered with a NVIDIA Tegra 2 double core processor of 1GHz. The fact which takes it ahead of iPad is its price. Acer has priced this one at $450 which is $50 less than the iPad 2 and Samsung galaxy Tab. It is $350 cheaper than the Motorola Xoom.
Pre-orders of this tablet have started and till date Iconia A500 is the cheapest Android 3.0 Tablet and this can attract the attention of other Tablet Manufacturers and this can lead to Price war in the near future.
As we said the specs of the tablet (As released by the manufacturer) looks pretty amazing. It has got a 5 megapixel Primary camera and a 2 Megapixel secondary camera. It comes with TFT WVGA display of resolution 1280 x 800. It has also got 1080p HDMI output port and a built-in gyroscope. The internal storage of this tablet is of 16GB. It has got WiFi and GPS support. It hasn’t been confirmed whether it will have 3G or 4G connectivity.
Taking a look at its dimensions, Iconia A500 is 10.24 inches wide and 6.97 inches long and its just 0.52 inches thick. The weight of this tablet is around 1.70 pounds.
The pre-orders of Iconia A500 have started online on BestBuy.com. In stores it will be available for pre-orders from 14th of April and it the sales of this tablet will start on 24th of this month.
So can it be an iPad killer. So far the specs and the price are telling so but the time will decide which one will rule.
