Introduction

Whether or not you believe the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 from AT&T is as revolutionary as RIM’s TV ads imply, depends on what side of the smartphone divide you’re on. If you’re a current BlackBerry user, you’ll find the Torch a quantum improvement over RIM’s last touch-screen attempt, the Storm, and an amusing alternative to BlackBerry’s suddenly quaint non-touch interface. If you’re an iPhone or Android user, however, a few minutes touching Torch will make you chuckle patronizingly before returning it to its chastened owner. In other words, BlackBerry users will find it a huge step up, but it still won’t staunch the bleeding RIM continues to suffer from defections to the iPhone and Android phones.

Features and Design

Even though RIM touts the Torch as revolutionary, it’s a doppelganger of the Storm, only with the addition of a vertical slide-out keyboard – same size screen, same basic design and layout.
The Torch would have been revolutionary – or at least competitive – even a year ago, but now suffers badly in comparison with the latest wave of iPhone and Android superphones. It has just a 3.2-inch screen, the same size on the Storm, but now suddenly considered small, considering the iPhone has had a 3.5-inch display since for more than three years and the 4-plus inch screens available on the Samsung Galaxy S, Motorola Droid X and HTC EVO. A 600 MHz processor compared to the 1GHz engines on all recent superphones. VGA rather than HD video recording. The Torch does offer a modern 5-megapixel still camera and 3G tethering – nice, but hardly comparable to the mobile hotspot capabilities of the Droid X from Verizon, or 4G hotspotting on the EVO and the upcoming Galaxy S Epic from Sprint.
BlackBerry is building its own App World app store, but the Torch also includes AT&T’s own AppCenter app store, which is slightly confusing.

BlackBerry’s biggest attraction has and always will be its highly responsive, sculpted physical QWERTY, but the Torch compromises this prime feature. To slide comfortably under the Torch’s top screen half, RIM flattened the keyboard, and as a result, the keys are nearly flush and don’t have Blackberry’s deep, firm response. Even though the keyboard is around the same approximate size as on previous BlackBerry slab phones, you’ll find now trying to hit ALT and the adjacent 7 key nearly impossible.

Multimedia

As compared to the iPhone and the current crop of Android phones, the BlackBerry’s Torch’s knack for dealing with music, photos and video is limited.
While smaller than current superphones, the Torch’s screen is nonetheless big and bright enough for casual video viewing. But MobiTV offerings are pixelated, and instead of a dedicated YouTube app, the YouTube icon instead simply takes you to the YouTube Web site, and I could find no way to watch videos in high quality, as you can on Android or iPhone. AT&T’s own video service doesn’t seem to be pre-loaded on the Torch, but you do get PrimeTime2Go.

Sound Quality

Like previous BlackBerrys, the Torch gives excellent, crisp voice conversation with plenty of volume. For speakerphone and media playback, it also delivers plenty of volume, albeit thinner aural quality.

The next generation of the mobile phones is all set to launch this summer. The new member of HTC EVO family will join them this summer. 3D has arrived for the phones and that comes with the big brand HTC. This phone is not just a 3D phone (read more about 3D in this phone, just keep reading) but it will have a lot more. Other than 3D the special highlight of this phone is its dual core processor of 1.2 GHz and 1GB of RAM. Eight years ago you didn’t even expected this kind of configuration for your PC. Did you?

This phone looks a real beauty. Impressive design, Glossy looks.
After taking a look at the phone and checking out its specs we think this phone is a complete package. You will miss out a hardware QWERTY keyboard but “the 4.3 inches” (560 x 960) inches S-LCD screen and HTC Sense UI’s brand new version i.e. UI 3.0 will not keep you behind.

The phones are having the loudspeakers and a 3.5mm audio Jack too. We can’t say much about the sound quality because we didn’t got chance to play any music. But according to the specs released by HTC it’s having SRS virtual surround sound for wired headphones.

You will get the latest Android on EVO 3D i.e. Android Gingerbread. So definitely you will get more apps for this phone in the android market.

All sorts of connectivity options are available in the phone. GPRS can speed up to 114kbps and EDGE up to 560kbps. 3G speeds are also impressive (14.4Mbps in HSDPA and 5.76Mbps in HSUPA). You also get the wireless LAN support (Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, WiMAX 802.16 e, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot) and how can you miss out the Bluetooth, the v3.0 with A2DP and EDR.

Now let’s talk more about its cover feature i.e. 3D. You can watch 3D stuff as well as you can shoot the 3D stuff. At the right of the phone, just above the standard camera button, you have a toggle button. This button toggles the phone between 2D and 3D. You can watch and record FULL HD (1080p) Videos in 2D mode. In 3D mode you can watch and record HD (720p) Videos. So that’s pretty cool. Not just videos, you can also take 3D pictures.

There are two cameras at the backside of the phone. When you want to take 2D pictures or you want to record 2D videos then just one camera does the job for you. But when you want to take 3D pictures or you want to record 3D videos then both of them are in action. There’s also a Dual LED flash which will help you to click pictures in the dark room. It has got a microUSB port which also works as an HDMI port. So you can connect your 2D and 3D television sets with the phone and you can watch all the stuff's which you generated using this phone.

Well a lot phones have already started Killing iPhone gently but we think if this one is priced well then it will make strong impact on the iPhone. But if you think this in other ways iPhone can’t be beated until they have Steve Jobs in their crew.

So this was our first look to HTC EVO 3D. Stay tuned for a brief review of this phone because soon this will be in our hands.

[REVIEW] HTC HD Mini

HTC has got wide variety of phones in its stock. After the release of Android OS v2.1 big giants of the smartphone market like Samsung, Sony Ericsson and even HTC have adopted Android.
But this time it isn't Android. HTC HD Mini Comes with Windows Mobile Platform. Let's take a look what this can do.

Rumor: HP Veer to come out on 2nd May with AT&T

Like most of the other handset makers, HP, also have a bad habit of announcing devices up to half a year before they even hit the market. According to PreCentral , The Veer, which was announced on February 9th of this year, is rumored to launch on May 2nd which is just under 3 months of waiting. It’ll be available from AT&T, with an as yet to be determined price point, but we’d take a wager that it’ll be less than $100 and quite possibly even free. The Veer, HP’s smallest smartphone has a screen that measures just 2.6 inches across with a resolution of 320 x 400 pixels. It has an 800 MHz Qualcomm processor inside, 512 MB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera, it does quadband GSM/EDGE, triband 3G, and it even has WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. This information is for those who don’t remember it. It’s a smartphone for those who want to against the trend of large screen devices. After AT&T announced the Samsung Infuse 4G that packs a 4.5 inch screen, many folks gagged a little bit in disgust. The Veer is for them.

The Veer was launching in Germany on O2 in May was heard this time last month, so it isn’t a stretch to say that it’ll come to America during the same month. So how many are picking up one? It’s roughly the size of a credit card, but what might kill it is the 15 mm thickness. In an age where sub 10 mm thick phones dominate the landscape, and even 9 mm is quickly becoming the new fat boy, the Veer might pose a bit of a problem. That may not sound like a lot, especially since that extra bit of junk in the Veer’s trunk is needed for the slide out QWERTY keyboard.

Our hands on time consisted of a 5 minute groping at a cocktail party in Spain. Still, it’s too early to say if it’ll rock or not.
