Samsung Corby 3G review

Positives:
  • The Touch-Wiz User Interface
  • The Sleek and Stylish look
  • A low price 3G Phone.
Negatives:
  • Poor Camera
  • 2.6 inch Resistive Touchscreen.

Samsung Corby 3G is an entry level touchscreen phone with 3G enabled. It is the youngest and smaller member of corby family. We were looking for a cheap touch phone in the market and suddenly we saw this. So we decided to test it for you. Take a look what it can do and what it can't.

Build:-

The Build quality of the phone is nice and its smaller than the size of our hands. It's so small in size, you can keep it even in your shirt’s pocket. The phone is generally made for the youths, as it has got really stylish looks. It’s very light in weight just 86 grams, so that makes it super portable. The product and hardware used in this phone are of cheap quality. So if you are a person who likes to have some fast and freaky gadgets along with you than this phone is not for you. Though it’s a decent buy for a newbie (new to touch-screen phones).

At front, on top, there's a small loudspeaker and below it a small ‘three’ logo is present. The Small 2.6 inch TFT screen is present in the middle. Samsung’s logo is located just below the screen. Finally you have 3 standard physical push buttons. The left button is for receiving/making calls.  The right button is for cancelling/ending calls and the one in centre is a back button
At right of the phone you have dedicated camera button and phone lock/unlock key.
At left you can see volume rocker(or controller) and microUSB
The thing by which we got disappointed was the absence of 3.5mm audio jack. If you already have some good headphones with you and you want to use them in this phone then you need to spend some more bucks for buying an extra connector. And you can’t enjoy the music while charging the phone.

Features and Performance:-

The Samsung Corby 3G comes with Touch Wiz Interface. So that increases the rating of this phone when it’s compared with other phones of same category. The thing which we liked was the task manager of the phone. For opening up the task manager just press the middle (back) button for a while. You will get all sorts of social networking apps here i.e. Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. It has also got chat applications like Messenger and Skype.
There are two different modes of connectivity by which you can connect your phone to the internet. The phone has got 3G connectivity which can speed up to 384 kilobytes per second. So that’s really good for downloading videos, music and photos and also for surfing pages on browser.
The other option is connecting the phone via GPRS. It has got a class 12 GPRS. You will not get that much speed. But this is good for using Social networking apps.
Phone has got a Dolphin 1.5 web browser for surfing the pages.
Camera of the phone is not that good. It’s just meant for taking casual photos and recording videos for MMS. The 1.3 Megapixel camera can take pictures of resolutions up to 1280 x 1024. Videos are recorded at 176 x 144 resolution. The clarity of the pictures and videos are not that good. Camera also comes with Smile Detection.
The sound quality of the phone is average. It isn’t loud but sound clarity is good enough. The bundled micro USB headphones give decent sound output. The Music Player can play Mp3 formats. There’s also video player which can play MP4 and 3GP videos.
The Phone has got internal storage of 50MB and you can extend it up to 16GB via microSD card, so that’s good amount of storage capacity. But you don’t get any microSD card bundled with this phone.
The call clarity and the signal strength of phone is really impressive. We didn’t experienced any kind of itchiness while talking on the phone.
The phone has got a Standard Li-ion battery of 1000 mAh. On 2G the stand by time of the phone is around 500 hours and you can talk up to 10 hours. While on 3G the standby time reduces to 450 hours and talk time reduces to 4 hours 30 minutes.
Talking about some more features of the phone. It has got a v2.1 Bluetooth, Java MIDP v2.1, a Document Viewer, stereo FM with RDS and Phonebook with 2000 call records.

Price:-

In the Indian Markets the lowest Price we got for this phone was Rs.5150 (INR). In UK it is priced at £59.99.
Looking at the features of this phone, it is really well priced and we will recommend this to you if you are going to buy your first touch screen phone. That’s it from our side.
